Back pain, neck pain or ongoing care in Great Notley: what do you need?
You might need a chiropractor in Great Notley for a quick appointment for recent back or neck pain, for a course of treatment over several weeks, or for a clinic near you with hours that fit your schedule. This page lists the 66 chiropractors in Great Notley and the surrounding area. Each listing shows the available information, such as address, opening hours and reviews, to help you choose.
Neck pain or sciatica: how can you be seen quickly?
For a recently stiff neck or pain running down your leg, look for a chiropractor open today close to home. Call as soon as the clinic opens, because same-day slots are often booked up quickly. Explain where it hurts, how long you have had symptoms and whether you have had a recent injury, so the receptionist can offer a suitable new patient appointment. The chiropractor will normally take your history and examine you before any treatment, and may refer you to your GP if needed. If you have loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the genitals or buttocks, weakness in both legs, or pain after a serious fall or accident, don't wait for an appointment. Call 999 or go to A&E straight away. For urgent advice that isn't an emergency, call NHS 111.
Busy schedules, pregnancy, reduced mobility: which clinic suits you?
Beyond the address, several factors set one clinic apart from another. Depending on your situation, it's worth checking:
- opening hours early in the morning, in the evening or on Saturdays;
- whether the practitioner regularly treats patients while pregnant and adapts positions and techniques;
- whether children, older patients or people with long-term conditions are welcomed;
- accessibility of the premises, ground-floor treatment rooms and nearby parking;
- whether animal treatment is offered, if you're looking for a chiropractor for dogs (your vet's agreement is normally needed first).
Persistent back pain or prevention: how do you choose a chiropractor for the long term?
For recurring low back pain, sciatica or posture-related neck pain, a clear treatment plan matters more than the first available slot. Ask how many sessions are expected, how your progress will be reviewed, whether you will be given exercises to do at home, and whether the chiropractor works with GPs or physiotherapists. In the UK, "chiropractor" is a protected title. Every practitioner must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council, and you can check the public register before your first visit. If you are pregnant, tell the clinic when you book and keep your midwife informed.
How much does a chiropractor cost and how is it covered?
In the UK, chiropractic treatment is mainly provided privately and is only rarely available on the NHS, so you will usually pay the clinic directly. Each clinic sets its own prices. The first appointment includes an assessment and often costs more than follow-up sessions. If you have private medical insurance, check your policy. Some insurers cover chiropractic but may require a GP referral or pre-authorisation, or limit the number of sessions. When you phone, ask about fees, payment methods and the cancellation policy. On the day, bring a list of your medication, any scan results and your insurer's details.
